Earth is the third planet in orbit around the type-G star Sol. Forming approximately 4.54 billion years ago along with its star, it is the fifth largest planet of the eight in its system and was the only one which has given rise to advanced sentient life. It is the homeworld of the human race.
The planet has one natural satellite, Luna, which is believed to have formed in a massive impact event in its past.
Environment[]
Earth is a temperate paradise with a variety of climates on its surface. Over two-thirds of the planet's surface is covered in liquid salt water solution oceans. The planet's active geological state, notably its plate tectonics, combined with its unpredictable and sometimes violent water-run weather has created a wide variety of terrain, and has been constantly reshaping its landscapes for billions of years.
The atmosphere is composed of approximately 78.08% nitrogen gas, 20.95% oxygen gas, just under 1% argon, with the remainder being comprised of trace gases, including carbon dioxide, as well as water vapour which varies throughout the planet's climate. Most of the planet's weather systems takes place in lowest parts of the atmosphere, 12km above the planet's surface and below. A layer of ozone molecules situated at approximately 30km above the surface protects its surface from potentially deadly ultraviolet radiation from its sun. A magnetic field produced by the planet's core also protects the surface from various other radiation from its sun as well as from space.

Earth has a variety of natural resources, with its oceans filled with aquatic life, forests full of wildlife, and fields full of edible plants and animals. Hydrocarbons like oil, natural gas and coal can be found underground, in limited amounts. Other mineral resources like diamonds, crystal formations and uranium are more common. Most of the land is readily able to support the cultivation of food.
